As a preliminary event to the upcoming “XIV Congreso Internacional de AEDyR”, the Water-Energy Nexus – Sol2H2O Project workshop was held on the day before the official opening. The session focused on the role of emerging technologies in the industrial water cycle, analyzed through the lens of the water-energy nexus. Participants discussed the technological, industrial, and market limitations that currently hinder the broader deployment of these solutions.

The workshop was jointly organized by the Instituto Tecnológico de Canarias (ITC) and the Plataforma Solar de Almería – CIEMAT, bringing together experts and project partners to foster dialogue and collaboration around sustainable water and energy integration.

Sol2H2O is a European research initiative coordinated by the University of Évora (Portugal), with active participation from the University of Palermo (Italy), the Plataforma Solar de Almería (Spain), and the Instituto Tecnológico de Canarias (Spain). The project aims to develop and demonstrate innovative solar-driven technologies for sustainable water treatment and hydrogen production, promoting cross-sectoral synergies and accelerating the energy transition in water-intensive industries.

The workshop provided a valuable opportunity to share progress, exchange ideas, and identify pathways to overcome current challenges in the adoption of clean technologies within the water-energy nexus framework.
